PITTSVILLE, Md.- Authorities are investigating an early Monday morning fire that caused hundreds of thousands of dollars in damage to a home in Pittsville.
The Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office says that at around 2:17 a.m., passing motorists reported the fire at 34831 Railroad Ave. Thirty-six firefighters from the Pittsville, Parsonsburg and Willards fire companies responded to the scene. It took firefighters 90 minutes to bring the blaze under control. The fire caused an estimated $200,000 in damage. There were no reported injuries and the home's occupant was not present at the time of the fire.
Investigators are still investigating origin and the cause of the blaze. Investigators say they have been hampered in gaining access into the home due to the roof and second floor collapsing.
Anyone with information about the fire is urged to call the "Maryland Arson Hotline" at 1-800-492-7529 or the Lower Eastern Regional Office at (410) 713-3780.
