TAYLORS ISLAND, Md.- Authorities say an 18-year-old man on Sunday died from injuries he sustained in a car crash that had occurred two days earlier in southern Dorchester County.
The Dorchester County Sheriff's Office says that at 7:20 p.m. Friday, deputies responded to a reported traffic accident that had occurred on the 4000 block of Punch Island Road in Taylors Island.
Police say the deputies learned that a Honda passenger car that had been driven by a 17-year-old girl had failed to negotiate a turn and had run off of the roadway into a ditch and overturned. The car's passenger, 18-year-old Ronald Wayne Bryan III of East New Market, was ejected from the vehicle.
The 17-year-old driver, who has not been identified, was taken to Dorchester General Hospital in Cambridge for treatment and released. Bryan was flown to Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury for treatment of his injuries. He succumbed to his injuries on Sunday at noon.
Police say the preliminary investigation has indicated alcohol and failure to wear a seat beat as contributing factors to the injuries.
The investigation is continuing and is being handled by the Sheriff's Office with assistance from Maryland State Police and the Dorchester County State's Attorneys Office.
