SALISBURY, Md.- Authorities have released the name of the 49-year-old man shot to death during an attempted robbery at a Salisbury gas station late Monday night.

Salisbury police identified the victim as 49-year-old Abdul Choudrey of Salisbury.

Investigators say that at around 11:02 p.m., officers responded to a report of shots fired and a person down at the Shell Station located at 2513 N. Salisbury Blvd. Upon arrival officers found Choudrey lying in the doorway of the business.

Choudrey, who police say had been shot three or four times, was transported to Peninsula Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Witnesses told investigators that two male suspects had entered into the business and approached Choudrey as he stood behind the counter. One of the suspects pointed a handgun at Choudrey and demanded that he open the register. Police say that as Choudrey raised his hands, one of the suspects shot him in the abdomen. A brief struggle ensued and Choudrey was shot several more times, according to investigators.

The two suspects are each described as black males with thin builds, approximately 5-foot-10 and 150 pounds. Both suspects were wearing dark clothing and hoodies that covered their faces. Both were armed with handguns.

Anyone with information should call the Salisbury Police Department at (410) 548-3165 or Crime Solvers at (410) 548-1776. Callers can remain anonymous.

Choudrey's funeral was held Wednesday in Springfield, Va. His body was returned to his native Pakistan for burial.
