LEWES, Del.- Authorities say a Tuesday afternoon fire caused hundreds of thousands of dollars in damage to a large pole barn near Lewes.

The Delaware State Fire Marshal's Office says the fire occurred at 1:55 p.m. on the 32000 block of Nassau Road.

The Lewes Fire Department responded to the scene and was assisted by the Georgetown, Indian River, Milton, Rehoboth Beach and Slaughter Beach fire departments. Upon arrival they encountered heavy fire showing.

Investigators are still trying to determine the origin and cause of the fire that destroyed the 60-foot by 100-foot building that housed straw, tires and farm equipment.  Damages have initially been estimated at approximately $300,000.  No injuries were reported.

Anyone with information is asked to call the State Fire Marshal's Office at (302) 856-5600.
