Posted:

LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va.- The Washington Redskins announced Thursday that they have signed third-round draft pick Kevin Barnes.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed. In addition, the Redskins released defensive end Derek Walker and wide receiver Jaison Williams.

Barnes (6-0, 187) was a third-round selection (No. 80 overall) in the 2009 NFL Draft out of the University Maryland.  He became the highest selection Washington used on a cornerback since taking Carlos Rogers with the ninth overall pick in 2005.  Barnes opened all 20 contests in which he played over the last two seasons and recorded 85 tackles, including 5.5 for loss, six interceptions, two forced fumbles and 14 passes defensed.

The 22-year-old Barnes was born Sept. 15, 1986 and attended Old Mill High School in Glen Burnie, Md.

Walker was originally signed as a college free agent out of Illinois on April 30, 2009. Williams joined the Redskins as a college free agent out of Oregon on April 30, 2009.
