Woman Killed in Worcester County Crash

Posted:

WEST OCEAN CITY, Md.- Maryland State Police say an elderly woman died as the result of a two-vehicle crash that occurred Monday afternoon in eastern Worcester County.

Police say that shortly after 2 p.m., a 2006 Toyota driven by 78-year-old Mary Rogers Cavey of Berlin attempted to exit a side street located just west of Jerry Mack Road, with the intention of crossing over the eastbound section of Route 50 to the crossover to travel westbound on the highway.

Police say that upon pulling her vehicle onto Route 50, Cavey pulled into the path of a 2007 Nissan van, driven by 54-year-old Susan Gayle Yaruta of Huntington, Pa. Yaruta's van collided into Cavey's driver's side door. As a result of the collision, Cavey died from her injuries.

Police say the investigation is continuing and Cavey's body will be sent to the State Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy.
