Aaron L. Jones
MAGNOLIA, Del.- Delaware State Police have arrested a 40-year-old Harrington police officer on charges of endangering the welfare of a child and unlawful sexual contact.
Police say that it has been alleged that Aaron L. Jones of Magnolia inappropriately touched a female, who was a minor, while she was staying in his home. Investigators say this conduct reportedly took place between May and June of this year and not while Jones was on duty.
Jones was arrested Tuesday afternoon after turning himself in to Troop 3. He was released on $2,500 unsecured bond. Jones was also ordered to have no contact with the victim, according to police.
Commenting on the arrest, Harrington Police Chief Norman R. Barlow said in a statement, "It is a certainly a sad day when one of our own has been arrested, and it is a disappointment. I want to assure the citizens of Harrington that I will diligently work hard to move our department past this incident and provide the police services they expect."
Jones, a 2-year veteran of the department, has been suspended with pay and benefits pending the outcome of the investigation, Barlow said.
