TEMPLEVILLE, Md.- Authorities are attempting to identify a man killed after he was struck by two vehicles in a row in northern Caroline County early Sunday morning.
Maryland State Police say the incident occurred shortly after 5 a.m. on Barclay Road west of Templeville Road. Investigators say a Hispanic male, whose identity is still unknown, was walking east in the eastbound lane of Barclay Road when a 2005 Dodge Stratus, driven by 23-year-old Katherine Figueroa of Dover, Del., struck the victim in the eastbound lane of Barclay Road. The Dodge then came to rest on the westbound shoulder.
Police say the victim remained in the eastbound lane. Meantime, a second vehicle, a 1994 Ford Aerostar driven by 70-year-old William Wright Deaner of Pasadena, Md., which was also traveling east on Barclay Road, struck the victim again, in the eastbound lane.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Figueroa was transported to Kent General Hospital in Dover for minor injuries. Deaner and the occupants of his vehicle were not injured. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators say contributing factors to the collision were weather (fog, wet roads) and the fact that the victim was wearing dark clothing while walking down the road. Police say the victim has been determined to be at fault and no charges will be filed against any of the drivers.
The name of the victim is being withheld pending proper identification and notification of next of kin.
