GEORGETOWN, Del. - Thousands gathered at the circle in Georgetown Friday night for a vigil in memory of Georgetown Patrolman Chad Spicer, who died in the line of duty Tuesday night.
Among those who spoke at the event - Vice President Joe Biden, who talked about Spicer's commitment to service, saying, "Chad was devoted in full to a much better and safer world. He served the people of his town."
Officer spicer leaves behind a 3-year-old daughter.
The shooting happened as Spicer and Corporal Shawn Brittingham patroled the town Tuesday night, pulling over a suspicious car after getting a call about a shooting in the parking lot of a local McDonald's. Spicer died, Brittingham suffered a neck injury.
Chad spicer served on the force for a year.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 8, 2009 at the Crossroads Community Church located at 20684 State Forest Road, Georgetown, DE 19947.
Visitation will be held between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Services will begin at 2 p.m.
Internment will immediately follow at the Cokesbury Cemetery located at Seashore Hwy and Cokesbury Road.
