Salisbury, MD - Cole McCurry etched his name into the record books, but it wasn't enough as the Lakewood BlueClaws defeated the Delmarva Shorebirds 1-0 in game four at Perdue Stadium.
The Lakewood BlueClaws powered their way onto the scoreboard in the first inning. Harold Garcia cranked a solo home run over the left field to give the 'Claws a 1-0 edge.
Neither team scored the remainder of the night. The teams combined for a total of ten hits.
In his 38th start as a Shorebirds pitcher, which ties with Richard Bartlett for the career mark, McCurry tossed eight stellar innings. He becomes the first Shorebirds pitcher to go through the eighth inning this season. The eight innings are also a career high for McCurry. He fanned nine batters.
Lakewood starter Trevor May earned the win in five shutout innings. He gave up just three hits. Freddy Ballestas and Jacob Diekman combined to shutout the Shorebirds in the final four innings.
The Shorebirds and BlueClaws play the final game of the 2009 regular season on Monday night at 6:05 PM.
