CHESWOLD, Del.- Delaware State Police say three people were taken to the hospital- with one listed in critical condition- following an early Sunday morning head-on car crash that occurred near Cheswold.
Police say the crash happened at around 12:45 a.m. on Brenford Road, two miles north of Cheswold.
According to police, a 2006 Dodge Ram, driven by 22-year-old Joshua Hammond of Dover, was traveling southbound on Brenford Road. According to police, Hammond crossed the center line and struck a 2009 Honda Accord, which was traveling northbound on Brenford Road. The Honda was being driven by 36-year-old Stephen Cerko of Smyrna.
Cerko was transported by ambulance to Kent General Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition. Cerko's front seat passenger was transported by ambulance to Kent General Hospital and was treated for minor injuries.
Hammond was transported by ambulance to Kent General Hospital and treated for minor injuries. Police say all parties involved were wearing their seat belts. Investigators say alcohol was believed to be a factor in the crash; however no charges have been filed at this time.
The investigation is ongoing and police say charges are expected to be filed against Hammond.
