PRESTON, Md.- A Preston man is facing charges in three counties in connection with a check and check card fraud case.

Maryland State Police say the investigation got underway on Sept. 9 when a Federalsburg man reported to authorities that between Aug. 5 and Sept. 7 someone had used his identity and cashed checks out of his account that he did not authorize.

Police say an investigation revealed that the victim's check card had also been stolen and utilized at various businesses throughout Caroline, Dorchester, Talbot and Worcester counties, as well as in the state of Delaware.

According to investigators, the suspect, 24-year-old Christopher William Quidas, was identified through video surveillance cameras as using the victim's check card.

Seventy-three charges were filed against Quidas in Dorchester County for identity theft, theft scheme, fraud, forgery, and related offenses. Sixteen charges were filed against him in Caroline County and 15 charges in Talbot County for related offenses.

On Thursday, Oct. 1, Quidas was taken into custody by the Federalsburg Police Department. He was later released on $5,000 unsecured bond for each county.
