BRIDGEVILLE, Del.- Delaware State Police say a Sunday night traffic stop resulted in the arrest of a Bridgeville man on drug paraphernalia and criminal impersonation charges.
Police say that at around 7:54 p.m., a trooper initiated a traffic stop on a Buick sedan that was traveling on Coverdale Road in the area of Jones Dogwood Lane east of Bridgeville.
According to police, the trooper determined that neither the driver nor front passenger had any identification in their possession.
A computer check was conducted based upon the information provided by both of the parties. Police say the check concluded that the driver of the car was being cooperative with the investigation.
Police say the front seat passenger, later identified as 48-year-old George Johnson of the 20000 block of Alder Lane in Bridgeville, provided two different troopers with different names and dates of birth in an attempt to conceal his identity. Johnson provided troopers with his true identity once he was detained, according to police.
A computer check indicated that Johnson was wanted on nine active capiases from three different courts. In addition, police say a search of Johnson's person for officer safety purposes revealed that he was in possession of drug paraphernalia.
Johnson was transported to Troop 5 where he was charged with criminal impersonation (misdemeanor) and drug paraphernalia (misdemeanor). He was then arraigned on the aforementioned charges and his outstanding capiases.
Johnson was locked up in the Sussex Correctional Center in lieu of a bond greater than $10,000. Police noted that the bond is a combination of cash and secure from the pending capiases
