WILMINGTON, Del. (AP)- Delaware environmental leaders say federal funding planned to replenish beaches will not be enough.

Delaware Shoreline and Waterway Management Administrator Anthony Pratt said $2.3 million will pay for monitoring and planning. But he said it won't fund construction projects or sand-pumping jobs needed to rebuild beaches.

Congress has approved $969,000 for Rehoboth and Dewey beaches and the same amount for the Bethany Beach-South Bethany areas. The bill includes $331,000 for the Delaware Bay shoreline from Lewes Beach to Roosevelt Inlet.

The Washington lobbying firm Marlowe & Co. says Delaware's needs for beach replenishment total nearly $44 million.

The $103 million bill is awaiting the president's signature.
