DENTON, Md.- Authorities have arrested a Denton man accused of bringing his son to school so the son could beat up a student who assaulted the man's daughter.
Denton police say that 44-year-old Kevin L. Williams's daughter, who attends Lockerman Middle School, was standing at a bus stop outside the school on Oct. 23 when a fellow student assaulted her. Police say that while officers were conducting an investigation into the assault, Williams brought his teenage son to the school for the express purpose of beating up the student who assaulted Williams's daughter. According to police, Williams's son carried out the attack.
Following the alleged incident, Williams was charged on a criminal summons with conspiracy to commit second-degree assault, trespass on school property, disturbing school operations, contributing to the condition of a minor, disturbing the peace and disorderly conduct. His trial is scheduled for Dec. 11.
Williams's son was charged with assault and the suspect accused of assaulting Williams's daughter was also charged with assault. Both juveniles were referred to the Department of Juvenile Justice and released to a guardian.
Lt. George W. Bacorn of the Denton Police Department said that what stands out in his mind is the fact that officers were already investigating the initial assault on Williams's daughter when Williams decided to take matters into his own hands.
"What gets me is that we were in the process of taking care of it and doing what legally should have been done," Bacorn said.
Bacorn said Williams's way of handling the incident was inexcusable.
"Our intent is to send a clear message that this type of behavior is unacceptable," Bacorn said. "It was retaliation and revenge, instead of justice."
Bacorn also noted that Williams's son was "old enough to know better" than to go through with the assault at his father's instigation.
Attempts to reach Williams for comment were unsucessful.
