MILTON, Del.- A Milton woman is facing identity theft charges after being accused of stealing personal information from several patients at a medical office where she worked. Investigators say the woman then used that information to apply for credit cards.
On Oct. 5, the Lower Paxton Township Police Department, located in Harrisburg, Pa. contacted Delaware State Police about an identity theft case that originated in Lower Paxton's jurisdiction.
According to police, the investigation revealed that 41-year-old Diane Perrin of Milton was employed at a medical office as a medical assistant between February 2008 and March 2009. Police say that as a result of her position, Perrin had access to the personal information of patients of the practice.
Investigators say Perrin obtained personal information of 11 patients and three other individuals from outside of the practice. Accounts were then opened through Capitol One, according to police. Troopers say that of the attempts, there were five applications that were approved and lines of credit established. The remaining 10 applications were declined.
On Wednesday, Nov. 3, Delaware State Police charged Perrin with 11 counts of identity theft (felony) and one count of theft under false pretense over $1,000 (felony). She was arraigned and issued a $24,000 secured bond. Perrin was is being held in the Women's Correctional Center pending extradition to Pennsylvania for similar charges.
