HURLOCK, Md - Some Hurlock residents say they're concerned that voter fraud is occurring at this mayoral election, so they asked the town to have 'poll watchers'.
Christopher Adams, who is a candidate for a council seat says the reason is, "...because I have observed elections in the past and I have noticed that there were a lot of people being brought in or bused in, if you will, to vote."
When we asked the town why it decided not to have poll watchers, the town attorney Hugh Vinson responds, "Article Six of our charter governs the election and the board of supervisors of elections are following that particular article to the letter."
When we asked the attorney, "So that must mean the town doesn't think voter fraud is going on, they think things are running smoothly, and they don't need poll watchers?" ...about the claims of voter fraud, he neither confirmed or denied it.
Vinson says, "Well, I've just answered your question. They're following the charter, Article Six, to the letter."
Part of Article Six in the charter reads: "The town council shall have the power.. for the conduct of registration, nomination and town elections, and for the prevention of fraud.. "
Despite these claims, the town says it's going by the book.
Poll-watchers who arrived at the election Saturday, say they were turned away before the polls opened.
