MARDELA SPRINGS, Md.- Authorities say four people- including two students- were taken to the hospital following a crash involving a school bus that occurred Monday morning in northwestern Wicomico County.
The Wicomico County Sheriff's Office says the crash occurred at around 7:22 a.m. on Quinton Road. Police say that when deputies arrived on the scene, they observed a Dodge pickup truck had rear-ended a moving bus on its way to Mardela Middle School. The bus driver and two of the nine students on board were transported to Peninsula Regional Medical Center for evaluation. A passenger in the pickup truck was also transported to PRMC for evaluation.
Police say an investigation revealed that the pickup truck struck the bus in the rear as the bus pulled away from picking up a child. Investigators say the driver of the pickup, 46-year-old Rossie Drew Winder of Mardela Springs, was determined to be at fault. Winder was cited for driving vehicle in excess of reasonable and prudent speed as well as failure to control speed to avoid a collision.
