HARRINGTON, Del.- The Harrington Fire Department said the Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating a fire at the Harrington Little League complex. The fire department said the fire broke out on Monday night.
The Fire Marshal’s Office has not said whether the fire was arson, but volunteers said the fire is suspicious.
Volunteers said an announcing booth at the complex burned Monday night.
“It's a shame all the volunteers put their time into it and then you got stuff like this happening that's uncalled for,” said volunteer Sherry Clark.
Volunteers said damage is estimated at around $4,000. League staffers said they work to make sure kids have fun on the ball fields every year.
Clark said that the league "struggles to make ends meet every year. You get people who do this and you get discouraged, but you have to keep fighting because it’s for the kids.”
Still, as Clark surveyed the damage Tuesday, she was confident the announcing booth would be rebuilt.
"We'll rebuild it, though some funds would be nice," she said. "And they'll eventually be caught. They'll get what's coming to them sooner or later.”
The Little League is asking for donations to help with the rebuilding. Send donations to: The Harrington Moose Lodge, P.O. Box 339, Harrington, DE, 19952.
