LEWES, Del.- Delaware State Police have arrested a suspect accused of robbing and murdering a 78-year-old woman whose body was found inside her Lewes home on Thursday morning.
Fifty-one-year-old Leslie D. Small of Milton is charged with first-degree murder, possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony and robbery in connection with the homicide of June McCarson. Bail information for Small was not provided.
Troopers were called to the Donovan – Smith Trailer Park on County Road shortly after 11 a.m. Thursday after a "Meals on Wheels" worker discovered McCarson's body lying in the front living room of her home. According to police, troopers found McCarson’s trailer was unsecured and there were signs of a brief struggle.
Investigating troopers arrested Small early Friday morning after they tracked him down to a Milford motel.
Police say Small operated a taxi cab and provided transportation for McCarson on Thursday. According to police, troopers found evidence at the scene and later executed a search warrant at Small’s home. Troopers noted that additional evidence was found there that linked him to the crime.
The exact manner of McCarson's death was expected to be determined after an autopsy.
