STAFFORD, Va.- Authorities have arrested a Dover, Del. man accused of traveling to Virginia in an attempt to have sex with a 13-year-old girl.
The Stafford County Sheriff's Office on Thursday took 69-year-old George Louis Woodrum into custody on one count of solicitation and manufacturing of child pornography and two counts of attempted indecent liberties with a juvenile. He is being held in the Rappahannock Regional Jail.
In early October, the Sheriff's Office began investigating a case involving a 13-year-old girl who lives in Stafford County. Police say the girl’s mother told investigators that Woodrum had been asking her inappropriate questions online. Police say that at that point, with parental permission, a detective assumed the identity of the teen on the e-mail exchanges with Woodrum.
According to police, Woodrum began to ask for sexually explicit pictures as well as requesting to have sex with the teen. Investigators say that on Thursday, Nov. 12, Woodrum traveled from his home in Dover to the teen’s home in Stafford County to have, what he thought would be, sex with the child. Stafford County Sheriff’s Office personnel were on scene when Woodrum arrived and he was taken into custody.
The Stafford County Sheriff's Office is asking that anyone who may have been approached by Woodrum in relationship to the above listed charges to contact the Sheriff's Office at (540) 658-4400 or Delaware State Police at (302) 697-2104, ext. 309.
