CHURCH CREEK, Md.- Maryland State Police say one person has died following a Friday night car crash in Church Creek.

According to police, the initial investigation indicated that a 1994 Isuzu Amigo, driven by 52-year-old John Coates, was traveling northbound on Route 335 north of Hip Roof Road. Police say that meantime, a 1997 Oldsmobile Silhouette, driven by 56-year-old Virgil Ruark Jr., was traveling southbound on Route 335 north of Hip Roof Road.

Investigators say the Isuzu lost control and spun out of control on a right turn, then crossed the center line and struck the Oldsmobile head-on. Police say the Oldsmobile came to a rest and caught fire and its occupants- Virgil Ruark Jr. and his passenger, Virgil Ruark Sr.- were entrapped in the vehicle. Troopers say Coates, Virgil Ruark Jr. and Virgil Ruark Sr. were all transported to Peninsula Regional Medical Center for medical treatment.

Police say that on Monday afternoon, Virgil Ruark Sr. died from his injuries. The crash remains under investigation.
