Storms Damage Mid-Atlantic Beaches, Roads

Posted:

WASHINGTON (AP)- Coastal communities in the Mid-Atlantic region recovering from recent severe storms are beginning to assess damage in their areas.

In Ocean City, Md., wind and waves took out as much as a quarter of the resort's dune line and city officials say some sand will have to be replaced. The town also had some street flooding and minor wind damage.

In addition, high tides and heavy rain flooded streams and closed roads in southern Maryland and the Lower Eastern Shore. A section of Route 13 in Salisbury, Md., remained closed Sunday morning as crews continued to monitor high water levels.

In Delaware, there was a five-foot drop-off at the Rehoboth Beach dunes. Officials plan a formal assessment of the state's coastline this week.
