DOVER, Del.- Delaware’s Department of Health has extend the period for people to sign up to be vaccinated against the H1N1 virus.

The department said it still needs people to sign up for a mass vaccination scheduled for this weekend. State officials said they still have 600 slots open for people to get a vaccine in southern Delaware.

The state hopes to vaccinate 3,000 people who have a higher risk of getting the virus, including pregnant women and people with underlying health problems. And while the state said the vaccine is safe, some people seem hesitant to get the vaccine. However, others said they would feel safer after getting the vaccine.

"Our primary care physician filled us in on it pretty well about the difference between nasal and spray vaccines. Our kids will get the vaccine and we're quite comfortable with the shot,” said mom, Carole Pfefferkorn.

To reserve a vaccine, you can call 1-866-408-1899 between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The mass vaccinations begin Friday in Kent County at Delaware Technical & Community College in Dover.
