BERLIN, Md.- A new building for the Worcester County Senior Center in Berlin will open Nov. 30, according to construction leaders.
County officials say they bought the property near the intersection of Route 113 and Route 346 for $1.75 million in 2008. It used to be an administrative office for a chicken processing company.
Renovation work began in July 2009. The county says construction cost about $328,000.
Construction leaders say it is a drastic improvement over the current small, aging building of the Worcester County Senior Center near the downtown area.
"The existing senior center in Berlin is smaller and it doesn't have the kitchen facilities that we've added to this building," Worcester County Engineer Bill Bradshaw said.
Bradshaw said the kitchen will allow more low-cost meals to be prepared for senior citizens.
