(Photo: MGN)LAUREL, Del.- Delaware State Police are investigating the shooting of a Laurel business owner that has left him in stable condition in the hospital.
Police say that just before 8 p.m. Sunday, four unknown suspects dressed in dark clothing and their faces covered entered the unlocked front door of Jim's Video Store on Commercial Lane. The victim- who was also the store owner- was inside the business when the suspects confronted him.
According to police, the suspects produced a handgun and a shotgun and told the victim to put his hands up. Police say that when the victim stood up and stepped toward the suspects, the suspect with the handgun struck the victim over the head. A second suspect with a shotgun then shot the victim in the chest, according to troopers, who say all four suspects then fled the area by unknown means.
Police say nothing was taken from the victim or the store. The victim, who has not yet been identified, was transported to Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, Md., where he underwent surgery. Police say he is listed in stable condition.
The victim could not describe the suspects any further and investigators say no witnesses have been located. Police noted that the store was closed at the time of the shooting.
