Hurlock Family of 7 Displaced by Fire

Posted: Updated:

HURLOCK, Md.- Authorities are investigating a two-alarm fire in Hurlock that displaced a family of seven early Wednesday morning.

The Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office says the 1:20 a.m. fire occurred at a single story home located on 121 Douglas Drive.

It took 40 firefighters from the Hurlock, Secretary, East New Market and Federalsburg volunteer fire companies approximately 10 minutes to get the two-alarm blaze under control.

There were no reported injuries but the family's pet pit bull died as a result of the fire.

The fire caused approximately $65,000 in damage to the home and another $10,000 in damage to its contents.

Deputy State Fire Marshals determined that the fire started in the kitchen but the cause of the blaze remains under investigation.

The Red Cross is assisting the family.
