SALISBURY, Md.- It's that time of the year again to look ahead at summer travel and the prices that go with it.

According to AAA's Fuel Gauge Report, the national average on May 5 was $2.91/gallon for regular. That's about one cent higher than one day prior, near a dime higher than one week ago, and compared to last year, almost one dollar more expensive. Diesel increased at around the same rate. Delmarva's current average is $2.86.

There is some speculation that Louisiana's oil spill may create a ripple effect on prices but Dr. Danny Erwin of Salisbury University, who studies energy sources, said BP's rig in the Gulf generates "a drop in the bucket." Other factors like Europe's financial crisis and demand may have more effect on prices. Erwin also predicts more travelers to head towards area beaches with the limited movement near Venice, La.

AAA reported a high of $4.11/gallon back in July of 2008.
