WALLOPS ISLAND, Va.- NASA unveiled a new rocket integration facility at Wallops Island on Tuesday, Mar. 22.  The new facility will be used to prepare commercial rockets for space.

Maryland U.S. Sen. Barbara Mikulski cut the ribbon to open the new facility.  She said the new facility will launch the United States into the 21st cCentury of space travel.

Mikulski also said the new facility will bring jobs to the Eastern Shore. She said these jobs are not just for right now but for the future as well.

Accomack County Administrator Steve Miner said the new facility will be a reason for people from the Eastern Shore to stay.  He said these jobs are high tech and pay better than average.

NASA's "Horizontal Integration Facility" will be used first by Orbital Sciences Corp. Together, they will prepare the Taurus II rocket for launch this fall.  This is a commercial rocket used to transport supplies to the International Space Station.
