Former Nursing Assistant Charged With Abusing Nursing Home Patient

CHESTERTOWN , Md.- A former geriatric nursing assistant at Chester River Manor, located in Chestertown, has been charged with abusing one of the nursing home's patients.

According to the Maryland Office of the Attorney General's, Donishia Wilson, 22, of Potts Road in Worton, Md., was charged in the Circuit Court for Kent County, Md., with one count of second-degree abuse of a vulnerable adult, one count of second-degree neglect of a vulnerable adult, and one count of second-degree assault in connection with an incident that occurred on Feb. 5, 2005.

It is alleged that the incident occurred while Wilson was on duty and responsible for the care of the victim, who is a resident of Chester River Manor.

Second-degree abuse and neglect of a vulnerable adult is a misdemeanor carrying a maximum of five years in jail or a fine of $5,000 or both. Second-degree assault is a misdemeanor and carries a
maximum of 10 years in jail and/or a fine of $2,500.

An arraignment is scheduled for March 10. This case was investigated by the Attorney General’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit, which has authority to prosecute abuse or neglect of vulnerable persons in facilities that receive Medicaid funds.
