UNDATED (AP)- Maryland Lt. Gov. Michael Steele says he would be interested in chairing the Republican National Committee, if the job offer comes his way.

Steele spoke on C-SPAN'S "Washington Journal" show on Sunday.

The Republican says he does not know who will be the new chair, but it is something he is considering if the opportunity presents itself.

Steele says he has not had any conversations with the White House yet about the job. He says he will see what happens over the next couple of weeks.

Steele lost his bid for a U.S. Senate seat to Congressman Benjamin Cardin on Tuesday.

Steele says he thinks it is time for the Republican Party to rethink its views. He says the GOP failed to address issues that concerned voters.
