06/07/2007 9:12 AM ET

DOVER, Del. (AP)- Delaware Gov. Ruth Ann Minner is promising to veto a proposal to allow sports betting if it ever reaches her desk.

State Rep. Vincent Lofink of Bear plans to introduce the measure Thursday and hold a committee hearing on it next week. Lofink is a co-chairman of the powerful committee that drafts the state construction bill known as the Bond Bill.

Minner says she believes the state can solve its revenue woes without sports betting.

Supporters of sports betting believe it can generate $70 million annually for the state.

Senate President Pro Tem Thurman Adams has said the idea should be included in state budget negotiations.
