Chase, who died Saturday, was known as the "Queen of Creole Cuisine". Her place was the famed restaurant Dooky Chase's. Born in 1923, Chase would run the restaurant for 7 decades. transforming the former sandwich shop into a fine dining restaurant for African-Americans in the 1950's. Chase broke segregation laws by providing space for black and white activists to meet. Martin Luther King, Jr frequently dined there. as well as former president's George W. Bush and Barrack Obama.
