It is with great excitement that we announce the partnership of Mountaire Farms and WBOC-TV in the WBOC/Mountaire FarmsScholar Athlete Award. Each month, this award will recognize a male or female athlete in his/her senior year from one Delmarva High School, who carries a "B" average or higher and participates in at least 2 varsity school sponsored sports in the calendar year. Nominees need to also be recognized by their coaches for outstanding sportsmanship and perform with superior ability in athletic competition.
Each month, the selected Delmarva high school WBOC/Mountaire FarmsScholar Athlete will receive a $1,000 college scholarship, an engraved crystal trophy recognizing him/her as the monthly honoree, and will be featured in a 2-3 minute vignette with WBOC Sports Director Scott Abraham (at his/her school). This vignette will spotlight the WBOC/Mountaire FarmsScholar Athlete's academic and athletic performance and be aired on WBOC TV/FOX21 and featured on the WBOC TV Sports Web site. Honorees will also be highlighted in Mountaire Farms quarterly newsletter, which is distributed throughout Delmarva.
At the end of the school year, two of the monthly WBOC/Mountaire Farms Scholar Athlete award winners will each be given an additional $2,500 college scholarships. Those scholarships will be awarded to one male and one female athlete. These winners will be named the "WBOC/Mountaire FarmsScholar Athletes of the Year." Both will be featured in additional vignettes, highlighting their yearly performance, which will be aired on WBOC-TV/ FOX21 and featured on the WBOC TV Sports Web page and in the Mountaire newsletter.
