Sealants
The pits and grooves of the back teeth are the most susceptible areas in the mouth to cavities. This is because the bristles of a toothbrush are too large to enter the depth of the pits and grooves. Therefore, plaque remains and causes decay. The best preventive method for this problem is dental sealants. Sealants have been in existence for 30 years. Initially sealants were placed on children's six year and twelve year molars. They are now used for adults and children's baby (primary) teeth as well.

Sealant placement is simple. First the pits and grooves are cleaned, then a conditioner, a bonding resin, and then the sealants placed. Delmarva Dental Services has been placing sealants since 1981.
