STARKSVILLE, Miss. - The National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division III poll was released on March 25 and Salisbury University is ranked for the first time this season as the Sea Gulls debut at No. 21. This is the first time since the 2007 season that the Sea Gulls (13-4) have been ranked in the Top 25 coaches' poll. SU shares the No. 21 spot with Howard Payne University (16-2) as they both received 41 points.
University of Texas-Tyler (19-1) jumped from No. 3 to No. 1 in this week's poll as it received eight first-place votes and 200 points. Louisiana College (15-4) remains at No. 2 after collecting 191 points. University of St. Thomas (7-1) moved up in the polls from No. 4 to No. 3 with 176 points. Emory University (23-5) and University of Washington- St. Louis (13-4) round of the top five with 156 and 153 points, respectively.
Salisbury is the only Capital Athletic Conference member to be in this week's Top 25 poll. This season the Gulls have recorded four wins against three teams ranked in the NFCA poll including DePauw University, Ithaca College, and a sweep of Lynchburg College. DePauw is currently ranked No. 16 in the country with a 10-4 record.
The Sea Gulls have two conference games this week on the road against Wesley College (March 25) and Stevenson University (March 28) before they return home for a doubleheader against Hood College on Sunday, March 29, at 1 p.m.
