EASTON, Md.- Easton police say an 8-year-old girl waiting for her school bus had to be rushed to the hospital after she was bit by a pit bull on Monday morning.

Police say that shortly after 8 a.m., officers responded to a reported dog bite that had occurred at the school bus stop at Sycamore Avenue and Hazelwood Drive.

According to police, an investigation revealed that the girl was waiting for her school bus when a pit bull, owned by a 33-year-old Easton man, walked out of a home on Sycamore Avenue and approached the bus stop. The dog then bit the child.

She was taken to Easton Memorial Hospital by Talbot County EMS. Police have turned over the findings of the investigation to the Talbot County Health Department and the Talbot County Humane Society. Police are continuing to assist those two agencies in this matter.
