Audit Finds High Overtime at Delaware Psychiatric Center

03/11/2008 11:13 AM ET

NEW CASTLE, Del. (AP)- Delaware's State Auditor says overtime at the Delaware Psychiatric Center is way over budget.

Auditor Thomas Wagner said Monday that the center does not have the controls in place to keep the amount of overtime where it needs to be.

His report reviewed the records of 10 employees. Two of them cost taxpayers nearly $22,000 because they had more than 500 hours of unapproved overtime. Wagner says all overtime requires written supervisory approval.

The report says some of the employees did not even work when they were being paid overtime. Wagner says supervisors didn't follow policies and procedures and performed sloppy record-keeping.

Wagner and Attorney General Beau Biden are now working on a second audit to look into possible criminal actions.
