Delaware to Post State's Checkbook Online

Posted: Updated:

DOVER, Del.- Delaware Gov. Jack Markell says the state's checkbook will soon be available online for public inspection.

The governor announced Thursday that the online checkbook will be available by July 30.

Markell says the Office of Management and Budget and the Department of Technology and Information will use the state's new digital finance program to make the information available online.

Lawmakers have tried unsuccessfully in the past to mandate online publication of state expenses. Some of the proposals were hurt by the estimated expense of such an effort.

But Markell spokesman Joe Rogalsky says the online checkbook will not cost the state money because current employees are working on the project using existing software.
