Here on Delmarva we have seen an influx of retirees looking to downsize from larger homes in the surrounding urban areas of Philadelphia, Baltimore, and Washington. Many of these folks are moving from 3000+ square foot homes to more moderate 2000 square foot homes, typically with fewer bedrooms. A trend we see is converting the third bedroom of the new home into a home office. Since the homeowners still need to have a third bedroom occasionally for guests they are incorporating Murphy beds and custom storage solutions in these rooms. That way they are comfortable as an office and guests can sleep on a real mattress when they visit. Another developing trend as baby boomers downsize is garage storage. The garage has taken on a larger role for storage and many clients want to maintain an organized space so they are incorporating lots of cabinetry and work areas for tools and crafts.
