BONE DENSITY - WBOC-TV 16, Delmarvas News Leader, FOX 21 -

Bone density scanning, also called dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry (DXA or DEXA) or bone desitometry is an enhanced form of x-ray technology that is used to measure bone loss.  The bone density examination is a method used to determine how much mineral is in a person's bones.  To accurately detect osteoporosis (a disease of low bone mineral content),  physicians commonly use DEXA bone densitometry to measure bone mineral density (BMD).  For convenience, women can schedule their bone density scan the same day they have their mammogram.
