DOVER, Del. (AP)- Delaware Gov. Jack Markell says someone higher up in the state police chain of command should have decided whether to release information about a rape and abduction last week.
State police did not release information about a June 2 abduction and rape in the Stanton area until after a second rape days later that police believe involved the same attacker.
The state's Safety and Homeland Security chief, Lewis Schiliro, says he supports detectives' investigative steps, but he would prefer that the decision be made at a higher level.
Markell echoed that sentiment and says the public should be aware.
Patricia Tedford of Contact Lifeline, a crisis counseling center, said she understands police do not want to release specifics before an arrest is made, but a general announcement would not compromise an investigation.
