Del. Man Gets Life in Prison for 2007 Slaying

WILMINGTON, Del. (AP)- A judge has sentenced a 23-year-old man from Bear to life in prison for the fatal shooting of a man at a shopping center.

Superior Court Judge Richard R. Cooch also on Tuesday added 12 more years to Jamaien Monroe's sentence for other convictions related to the 2007 slaying of 22-year-old Andre "Gus" Ferrell.

A New Castle County jury convicted Monroe in March 2009.

According to testimony, Monroe shot and wounded Ferrell in 2006, a day after Monroe and two other men tried to take a gold chain from Ferrell.

About 14 months later, the men drove past each other in the Taylortown Shopping Center in Bear. Prosecutors say Monroe ran to his girlfriend's apartment to get a gun and returned to the shopping center to shoot Ferrell.
