DOVER, Del. (AP)- The former finance director of the Laurel School District has reportedly admitted to taking money but says the amount is less than what he's accused of stealing.
William Hitch Jr. was indicted earlier this month on 99 counts of theft and tampering with public records in an alleged theft of more than $150,000 from school district coffers over eight years.
Hicks - in a response to a lawsuit filed by the school district - challenges the financial figures and says his use of a "retroactive pay code" was authorized. It's not clear how much money Hitch claims to have taken.
Hitch resigned his post in December.
