HURLOCK, Md. (AP)- A new zoning designation in Hurlock will provide tax credits to businesses in the Eastern Shore community in Dorchester County.
State officials hope the tax break will create jobs and encourage economic development.
The new enterprise zone will encompass about 600 acres in Hurlock, including the Hurlock Industrial Park and the town's Main Street.
Businesses operating within the enterprise zone will get state income tax breaks based on the number of new jobs they create. They may also apply for property tax breaks based on their capital investment into their property.
Hurlock Mayor Joyce A. Spratt said the initiative will help revitalize the town.
