LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va.– The Washington Redskins announced today that they have signed safety Tyrone Carter and fullback Carey Davis. Terms of the deals were not disclosed. The team also released linebacker Chris Draft.
Carter (5-9, 195) has played in 151 games, with 53 starts over his 10 NFL seasons. In his career, Carter has totaled 430 tackles (342 solo), 5.5 sacks, nine interceptions, 28 passes defensed, eight forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries.
Last season, with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Carter played in 16 games, with 12 starts and totaled 72 tackles, one sack, two interceptions, six passes defensed, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.
After signing with the Steelers as a free agent on Oct. 20, 2004, Carter spent six seasons in Pittsburgh and played in two Super Bowls.
Prior to joining the Steelers, Carter spent the spent the 2003 season with the New York Jets, where he posted a career high in tackles (95), interceptions (two) and starts (16).
Carter was originally selected by Minnesota in the fourth round (118 overall) of the 2000 NFL Draft and spent three seasons with the Vikings (2000-02).
Carter played collegiately at the University of Minnesota and was born on March 31, 1976, in Pompano Beach, Fla.
Davis (5-10, 225), has played in 37 games, with 10 starts since entering the league as a college free agent with the Indianapolis Colts in 2004. Over his four NFL seasons, Davis has 31 carries for 118 yards and 17 receptions for 76 yards.
Davis spent the last three seasons (2007-09) with the Steelers, where he played in 36 games with 10 starts. In 2007, Davis set career highs in games played (16), carriers (17), rushing yards (68), receptions (12) and receiving yards (49). Davis also helped clear the way for running back Willie Parker to run the ball 321 times for 1,316 yards (4.1 avg.) and two touchdowns.
Before signing with the Steelers practice squad on Nov. 2, 2006, Davis spent time on the practice squads of Indianapolis Colts, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Miami Dolphins. Davis also spent the 2005 offseason and training camp with the Atlanta Falcons.
Davis was born March 27, 1981 in St. Louis, Mo., and played his collegiate ball at Illinois.
Draft, a 11-year NFL veteran, originally signed with the Redskins as a free agent on May 7, 2010.
