NEW CASTLE, Del. (AP)- A former Delaware Cabinet secretary who came under fire for his handling of problems at the state-run psychiatric center has been appointed to a top New Castle County government post.
County Executive Paul Clark announced Thursday that Vincent Meconi will serve as his deputy chief administrative officer. Meconi, who has been an adviser to Clark's transition team, will begin his new role Jan. 3. His salary has not yet been determined.
Meconi, 59, served as secretary of the state health and social services department from 2001 to 2009, after eight years as secretary for administrative services.
As health and social services secretary, Meconi survived calls for his resignation amid revelations of widespread patient abuse and neglect at the Delaware Psychiatric Center.
