MILLSBORO, Del.-  In March, a Sussex County third grader will grace the small screen alongside actress Kate Winslet in the HBO miniseries, "Mildred Pierce."

Quinn McColgan takes the school bus to Worcester Preparatory School every day, is diligent with her homework, and celebrated her 9th birthday on Monday. Outside of school, McColgan works as an actress and model.

"It's so much fun to play a part that may not really be yourself," McColgan said.

McColgan plays Winslet's youngest daughter in "Mildred Pierce," based on the 1941 novel by James M. Cain.

McColgan said she learned a lot working on "Mildred Pierce," including how to convincingly shiver. McColgan said her favorite part of filming was having to do so many retakes of one particularly sweet scene.

"I got to eat thousands of cupcakes because they had to keep doing it over and over," McColgan said.

Since filming wrapped up for the miniseries, McColgan's modeled some and has found herself on the shortlist for a few motion pictures.

Her parents say, however, that she can stop acting whenever she feels like it.

"We say all the time that if she wants to keep doing it, great," Noelle McColgan, Quinn's mother, said. "If she wants to stop next week, that's fine, too."
