LEWES, Del.- Delaware State Police have arrested a Lewes man wanted on home improvement fraud and related charges.
Police said that on Thursday, 29-year-old Michael A. Fitzgerald turned himself in to authorities. He was arraigned on charges of home improvement fraud, theft $1,500 or greater and victim is 62 years of age or older and carry on occupations without license. He was then released on $2,050 unsecured bond.
According to police, Fitzgerald was contracted out by a 72-year-old Lewes woman to perform household repairs to her home. According to police, the victim paid Fitzgerald $1,925 to replace all existing piping with new PVC piping. This included all pipes under her home, bathrooms and kitchen.
Investigators said it was not until after the victim hired a person to spray for insects outside of her home that she discovered Fitzgerald had not completed any of the work he was contracted to do.
At the conclusion of the investigation, police obtained warrants for Fitzgerald's arrest.
