NEWARK, Md.- A Worcester County man is behind bars following his arrest on a variety of child sex charges.

A grand jury on July 26 indicted 21-year-old Russell Keith Barbely Jr. of Newark on three counts of third-degree sex offense, three counts of fourth-degree sex offense, three counts of sexual solicitation of a minor, three counts of second-degree assault, and one count of use of a computer to depict/describe a minor engaging in a sexual act.

The Worcester County Bureau of Investigation said that Barbeley's arrest stemmed from an investigation that got under way on July 11, when WCBi detectives met with the child's father at the Child Advocacy Center in Berlin. Police said that the victim's father stated that his child  met Barbely when he served as a substitute teacher at Snow Hill Middle School, although the allegations which led to the indictment did not occur on school property.

Evidence suggests that Barbely used Facebook as a means to foster the relationship, according to police.

Barbeley wsa taken into custody on Wednesday, July 27, while a search and seizure warrant was executed at his home. He was ordered held in the Worcester County Jail in lieu of $250,000 bond.

A jury trial for Barbely is scheduled for September.
